SUMMER 2019

 SUMMER VIBES

 "Time Flies!"

Those words swirl around in my head a lot these days
We are mid-way through May already and I am
still barely comfortable thinking of this as 2019.
Fast approaching is Summer and our slow season as
Snowbirds and "Part-Timers" depart for cooler temps.

I feel anxiety whenever I stop to think of how fast
I travel through the seven days of each week.
During our busy season, I am packing and unpacking
so often it makes my head spin!

When it is over, the quiet is nice...
(for a bit)
and then I get ansy!
Now, we have another local art market
on the Malecon or "waterfront" and
I can pack up and head down there on Saturdays.

I like busy. Busy is a good thing.
I guess if I had nothing going on,
life might slow down.
And, I am not sure that I would like that.

(Enough of my "I can't be 55" yet rantings.)

What does my Summer look like?

I will be sewing - of course - that is therapy!
Working on a new cross-body bag design.
Making some men's shirts for summer and fall.
And, Always looking for new ways to recycle garments.

"It's been such a funny day
I don't know why
Walking on an endless lane
Life passing me by

Tomorrow is calling
But I'm dragging my feet
The skies are indecently clear
But I can't stand the heat

You know, time flies
And the rebels, one day, they all go quiet
Ain't no money, ain't nobody
That can buy you peace of mind
Ain't no money, ain't nobody
That can buy you peace of mind."

~ Lyrics Time Flies by Vaya Con Dios

"She said luck is all you make it
You just reach out and take it
Now let's dance a while

She said nothing ever happens
If you don't make it happen
And if you can't laugh then smile

But after a while
You realize time flies
And the best thing that you can do
Is take whatever comes to you
'Cause time flies."

Let's just call it August.

Here in Sonora, the humidity has hit.
It is almost August and we can look forward to
about two months of hot and humid weather.
sitting under the air conditioning is the go-to daily activity.
Get the outdoor work done early in the morning and evening.
I am happy to have an indoor project to get busy with!

Last year (2017) I didn't organize a fashion show because
our first grand-daughter was due in October.
She just turned 9 months old and is a little sweetheart.

O. And, I was also planning a very special family event -
A 55 year anniversary party for my parents.
SO...
We are already more than halfway through 2018
. . .time to start planning!

Check out the FASHION SHOW Page on this Website
to see photo albums from all of the past shows.

Stay cool this summer.

And, it is already 2018

So, I guess you could say
that I have been just a bit
distracted lately.

There was the anxious awaiting
for our first grand DAUGHTER to arrive.

She arrived early
and is our latest LOVE Affair!

Then, a second distraction
was getting all of the seemingly "last minute" preparations made for the SeaShell Museum.

This is the latest addition
to the Off the Beach Workshop property.
It is now open and
I am nick-naming it the "Friday Museum"
to remind everyone that the hours
for the museum are Fridays from 10 to 5.
Of course, just like the Workshop/Studio I will always try to accomodate any
requests for appointments on other days.

So, here are a few of the latest ideas that
I have been working on...
Inspired by the new baby, I think.

The taco and tequila themes
are - of course - pretty popular
here in northern Mexico!

Salty Pirates
and Mermaids
...another proper theme for us.

Still working on a few t-shirt re-designed
dresses and tunics.
I especially like this one with its
bright. colorful traditional looking Mexico colors.

O. there in the background is my
Flamenco Dance poster...

A souvenir from Spain.
Ole'

A couple more re-Creations.
My friend told me these look
a lot cuter in person.
I am just a horrible photographer.

They are pretty cute with some
fun detailing and pockets.

(Everybody loves pockets).

Russ is still making his
Re-created lights.
Here is one that is a
Havana Cuba cigar box.
Made into a vintage look lamp.
Check out that super cool old switch.

Plus other great little gifts.

I am always working on a few
items for the "Sea Debris" collection.
A few embellished mermaid frames.

And, even though she is a new mom,
Bethany continues to provide us with some great little oil and watercolor paintings.
These two are a set,
simply lovely, delicate seaweed studies.
Framed up in authentic rough wood
frames we purchased in Tonala.

So, that brings you up to date on my 2017-2018 Winter

AUTUMN 2017

We had a busy Summer traveling to a few
Vintage Art Shows and Music Festivals.

Also, over the summer we started an addition project.
The SeaShell Museum which we will continue working on
and hope to open late December or in January of 2018.

Planted a bit of a garden on the property, too.
A few grape vines... which surprisingly did
really well throughout the hot, humid summer!

A sneak preview of the new museum space.
It will be a great addition to my workshop & Studio!
I am super excited about this.

Still working on the garden space behind the studio.
But, we spent a few evenings here
just enjoying the new spot!

I don't have any photos, but I also emptied out the shop
and worked like some kinda demented, old construction worker
laying tile in the main room. Trying to "class" the place up a bit.
(Geez. That was tough on the ol' knees and back)

I think the space is looking pretty good and ready for today's
re-opening for the new season!
Today, Friday October 6th. With new slightly extended hours.
Open FRIDAYS 10 am to 5 pm s

Summer "vacation" is over.
Back to work!

See you soon!

Boom. . . and it's over!

ðŸ’‹Wow!  So much sewing until I think my eyes just may have crossed.
Just a tiny bit of stress (you could probably ask Russ or Bethany about that).
The anticipation makes me completely crazy...
💥is there gonna be wind💨, is it gonna be cold⛅, hot🔥, miserable⛈, wonderful☄,
Blah, blah, blah...

Everyone involved was working so hard to get all the little "moving parts" (as Russ calls them) in order.

And, then "BOOM" . . . in the end we had one big o' fun afternoon.
Well, I hope you enjoyed it. So, here are a few photos.

First of all. . .
Tony shot a few photos just before the models went "on"
So, he captured a bit of the "Anxiety" jitters... ha ha

Almost Ready. . .

Then, Manny took some fantastic photos onstage.
The photo shoot idea worked out pretty cool.
So here are the Collections:

The Dancer's Dresses Collection:  Flamenco, Tango, Ballroom...

Dahlia's Collection ~ Inspired from her Treasures at Casa Turquesa

The Fun and Funky Collection ~ Randi, Karen, Roxanne and Adry

These are all the Party Dress collection ~ Pom-poms, Bling, Sequins, Beadwork . . ."Party On"

and, we mixed it up with some entertainment this time.
Michelle bringing a little taste of Flamenco to the Day.  Notice my "Flamingo-Flamenco" Dress design
All in fun the play on words there . . . with a giant flamingo face on the shawl

Marissa modeled for me and also brought her dancers from Destiny Dance Academy. Adorable and talented girls!

"Models for a Moment"
All of these ladies graciously showed off  SweetNaomi ReCreation designs that they own... ❤

Ashley made the model hairdo's all so lovely 💚💚

How do you get 20 people to all look stunningly beautiful at one moment?
OK.  Well, we tried.  We really did.
(You are never gonna get one photo where 20 Ladies all think they look good.
SIMPLY not gonna happen . . . huh Manny?)

I believe it is way better to just have FUN with it!
Enjoy the laughter....

I am very happy to work with Dahlia. She has been involved as a Designer with each
Fashion Show since the first one I did in 2013. I absolutely love the fact that Dahlia
also recycles or “ReCreates” clothing into some really trendy, great new styles!
Thank you Dahlia!

Thank you . . .  and, Thank You a second time  - to everyone who attended!

I was absolutely so very, very thrilled that my Bethany
could be here at my side for this event this year.
She makes me feel happy
and I think we give each other a little extra confidence.

"The Things We Do for Fashion"
A compilation video Russ and I put together from the 4 prior fashion shows.

Festival of Spain Fashion Show - March 20, 2016

This Fiesta called the Festival of Spain and its first ever Fashion Show,
"Moda Flamenca"
was held at the Phoenix Center for the Arts.

I spent weeks getting things ready for the show.

Russ and I set up a booth on Sunday morning to display some of my things.

A few of my friends (along with some of their friends)
all gathered on Sunday afternoon at my booth.
I had dresses that I was hoping would be right for each of them
and I had made up some flower hairpieces, too.

Everyone was ready . . . (we dressed really fast because the
dressing room area was really hot and stuffy!)
It was air conditioned in the hallway...
And so we waited!

There were great dance presentations on the stage outdoors.

Finally, we were lined up and ready to go.

Each of our faces showed a tiny bit of stress or nervousness, I think.

Each dress has been Re-Created from other items.
First off, I will show you the dress that sold before it could be modeled.
It is a great example of how I take a few pieces of clothing
and then add some detailing and remake them into a new dress.

Ok... Now on with the Fashion Show
Note:  Some photo collages will also show what I started with.

Two of the dresses were from prior shows and
so have been modeled previously.

After the other designers had also shown their designs,
we were all invited back to the stage.
What a fun day!

We all had a fun "finale" moment... stomping our feet - flamenco style!
Thank you to my fantastic volunteer girls!
Thank you to Angelina at Flamenco por la Vida for inviting me.
Thank you to my great friends from Penasco who came up, joined the audience
on a warm Phoenix afternoon, just to cheer us on!
Thank you for the great photographs, Jam Sani Photography.

PS I guess I will have to show you my dress....
I really love it and the fabric is fantastic!
~ it turned out pretty dang "classy" ~
