THE IDEA PAGE

Some Terminology
al·ter - changed in order to improve or made more fit for a particular purpose
re·cy·cle - to recondition and adapt to a new use or function
up·cy·cle - the using of waste materials to provide useful products
rec·re·ate - to impart fresh life to; refresh
tra·shion - a term for fashion created from used, found or thrown-out elements

So, the Peñasco Runway Project is called Altered Ropa.
It is going to be a fun summer project.
You can see the preliminary page explaining the contest at:
http://mexiconaomi.blogspot.mx/p/penasco.html
But I thought I would post some of the things that I've
discovered on the internet while researching this project.

Our contest will be judged on two basic elements:

1.
One is the originality of the item -
how uniquely the designer was able to transform the previous item(s)
into an interesting and stylish new creation.

2.
The other element is the wearability of the final garment.
Which means, we are not going for the outlandish . . . not in this contest.
Rather, we are looking for a designed garment which can actually be worn
in the real world!

Some of the crazy photos that I am including here
are super cool and really totally unique - however, not for the real world.
So let's look at some of my "finds"!
"The good the bad and the ugly", as they say:

OK. . .  So this is Interesting. Definitely Unique.
Certainly, it is a real "recycle" project.
However, it is not what we are going for in this contest.

This is a PERFECT example of the kind of transformation we will be looking for!
Taking a boring old item. . .
And re-creating it into a completely wearable item of clothing.

However, this is not super unique. It is rather conservative.
Yet, it is a good example showing the Before and After of the project.

Here is a project that I did
Also, showing the "Before" items and the "After" which is a flamenco dress.

Here we have another great Trashion-Fashion
(for the "NOT LIKE THIS" category.)
Adding embellishments can be a great way to Up-Cycle an outfit.
Here is one that is much more wearable:

This one is just waaaay too Boxy.

In contrast, this is perfect.
A really Funky skirt made of old sweaters,
yet completely wearable.
Ok not in July or August, but wearable.

On the other hand,

That is really beautiful.

However, I have saved my All-Time Favorite, most Lovely dress for last.

This one is amazing!
It is made from OLD PANTY HOSE!!
(*I am safe in showing this one as nobody could find this
many pairs of panty hose in all of Puerto Peñasco. HA.)
