A Scrumptious Project for Spring 2022

Every once in awhile, I get asked to design something 

that really is special. 

Recently, I was asked to take a basic little dress 

and re-design it for a special event -
a wedding vow reaffirming ceremony.  

The dress as it looked.

Pinterest Inspiration 

* So, this dress is leather and very different fabrics

than I would be working with. However, the concept 

of the shirt's layers and asymmetry was the 

beginning of some inspiration. 

I had one piece of this lovely beaded detail which 
would perfectly pair with the beaded crown.

And, I was all set to start the re-designing!

Re-aligned the under-slip and added the 
♡ Lovely Detailing. ♡ 

Then I cut off the bottom tier of the skirt.
And, added length to the under-skirt. 

I realized that the middle tier seam was never going to look 

right. It was going to have to go! 

This meant removing the entire skirt to remake it. 

Much better!
Next step was adding the (curtain) sheer skirt fabric.
This was very assymetrical and would become
 a train at the back of the dress.

Now, for the fun part! 

The tiny hand-cut fabric flower buds - each one 
with bits of multi-color yarn strands. 

Some of the detail work could be sewn 
on by machine . . . 

 
. . . but much of it would be hand-sewn.

Introducing, my favorite Spring 2022 Project: 

This was a fantastic and fun project. 

From concept to finish, it was totally enjoyable. 

I describe this dress as "ethereal" - 

Delicately lovely with a fairy-land mystique.

Fall Fashion Fiesta 2018

So, I got this crazy idea to do a poster with PEOPLE on it. 

Which in itself was a pretty good idea.

PEOPLE.... as in one of them is me?

(Geez. Did not think this one all the way through!) 

Somehow, I forgot how much I DETEST posing.

For the "photo-shoot" each of us wore something 

that we had designed and brought a second item 

as a work-in-progress for the mannequin.

Dalia and Adry were great!

I had a few other ideas. . . 

Thinking it might be cool to see us all hard at work, we 

each grabbed sewing tools and came up with this pose: 

And, finally after all that hard work

we opened a bottle of wine: 

It is a little stressful smiling and posing repeatedly. Ugh.

But, I am pretty sure that Manny (our photographer) 

had the most difficult job of all. 

He was super patient with our crazy ideas 

and somehow he made the photos work!

GREAT GIFTS  & FANTASTIC FINDS

La Cueva is a funky little gift shop with treasures to be found.

It is located inside the Mini Market at the Sonoran Spa. 

The Mini Market is open daily from 8 am until 6 pm. 

So there are lots of opportunities to shop!

The gift shop has an amazing variety of items 

many of which have a definite Rocky Point "feel". 

Perfect Souvenirs 

Perhaps, with a little different perspective 

than most other local finds.     

La Cueva ~ A New Boutique

So, my little studio and workshop "Off the Beach" is only open on Friday. 

Of course, you can also see my "junque" (ie: designs, eclectica, etc) at the 

Mermaid's Market on the 1st and 3rd Saturday each month 

through April at the Shrimp Plaza. 

But, now you can shop all week long . . . Ha! 

The new gift shop and boutique is open at Sonoran Spa. 

So, here is the deal, it is inside the mini market. 

So you have to go in through the mini market to visit the shop.

(Around the corner & to the left from of main entrance/lobby of Sonoran Spa)

Sweater Coat: A Re-Design in Progress

I decided to actually take the time to photograph the steps in a redesign project.

I often plan to do this . . . 

and somehow, I seem to always get carried away and forget.

Ok. So here goes.

THE "BEFORE" SWEATER

GATHERING SOME  "Junque" THAT MAY COME IN  HANDY. . .   

MORE STUFF . . .FRINGE, BEADS, ETC.

CUT OUTS TO MAKE INTO ROSETTES.  PLUS MAS.

The final sweater can be worn as a tunic, coat or sweater.  

With one-of-a-kind detailing, there is not another to be found! 

Details include: 

Fabric Rosettes (hand-cut with burnt melted by flame, then constructed.)

Neckties, Fringes plus the hand Beadwork.

Take a look at your old, boring sweaters or other items.

Hmmm . . . What can we do with them?
